Greene County and Perry played high school soccer against each other on Tuesday night. The girls played in Perry at Dewey Field and the boys met at Linduska Field in Jefferson with the Perry teams winning both. Greene County girls’ golf was a 209-216 winner at The Hill west of Grand Junction over Webster City.

Coach Heath Telleen watched his team extend their winning streak to six straight. Maya Telleen and Taylor Johnston each shot 49 for the Rams with 53 from Hallie Monthei and 58 by Maggie Mikkelsen. Telleen and Johnston had the two lowest scores on the round. Coach Telleen has seen the girls continue to improve and he’s looking forward to what lies ahead.

In soccer, The Jayettes won 9-0 at Dewey Field to improve to 3-8 while the Rams fell to 0-9. The Rams have scored just one goal this season.

The boys match was a 3-2 overtime thriller. The Blue Jays leading scorer on the season, Jacobo Cerna-Gomez, scored the game winning goal with 3:25 left in the extra 10 minute period. Sergio Sanchez had two first half goals to put Perry up 2-0. The Rams picked up a Gesser Gutierres goal with 26:41 remaining in the second half. Jack Hansen tied the game with 25:07  left and it stayed tied until OT. Perry has won eight straight to improve to 8-3 and the Rams have lost two of their last three to fall to 6-2. Ram coach Carl Behne credited both teams for some high level play. He noted Greene County goalkeeper Gabe Ebersole had 16 saves, including a save and deflection save on a Perry penalty kick. The Gutierres goal was his 27th of the season in just his fifth match. Hansen’s goal was number three in 2024.
