The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During reports, County Attorney Thomas Laehn mentioned a new law from the state legislature would allow county supervisors to eliminate compensation boards and make the supervisors be the compensation board.

County Engineer Wade Weiss then updated the Board on a couple of projects. He said part of this year’s route for Bike Ride Around Greene County (BRAG) that takes place on May 24th is going to be on County Road E-18, which is the same portion of the road that is scheduled to be resurfaced. He also reported that the bridge over Snake Creek near Rippey is expected to be completed by mid-May.

The Board then held a public hearing for the 2025 fiscal year budget and the salary schedule for the county-elected officials. The Board approved the recommendation from the Compensation Board of four percent across the board increases in salaries for elected officials, as well as the budget for next fiscal year. The overall tax rate that starts July 1st is $10.23 per $1,000 of property valuation and the rural portion is $3.05.

Next, the Board heard an update on the solar panel project from Alliant Energy. No timeline was given of when construction would begin and an exact number of acres for the project was also not reported. There were no plans for a battery storage facility with the project and that it was still going to be a 100 megawatt farm.

The Board also approved the final plans for the bridge replacement project on South Grimmell Road in Jefferson. The late start date would be September 16th and bid letting would be in July. The second reading of the amendments for the solar energy ordinance was also approved, along with waiving the third reading for final adoption of those changes.
