It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and a representative from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office reflects on years of service.

Dallas County Dispatcher Bob Coffin tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s been working for the county for 28 years. Coffin comments that helping people is an aspect he likes and demonstrates that each day brings unique circumstances, requiring a special set of skills.

“A lot of multitasking, a lot of problem solving, assigning resources, send a police officer to this, a fire department to this, or both, or ambulances, and talking with people. Some who are needing help and people having some of the worst days of their life.”

Coffin says the most common calls the department receives are about traffic complaints, medical or accidents in the area. He feels grateful to be assisting the community the best way possible.
