Greene County has one more meet on the schedule to try and qualify events for the April 25-27 Drake Relays in Des Moines. The Rams have had one or more events make it to Drake Stadium for quite a few years, but are on the outside looking in with the qualification deadline looming. Performances through tomorrow are accepted with the tentative qualifiers list expected to be released on Friday.
The Rams, especially on the boys’ side, have some Drake Relays possibilities, but will need improved performances and some good fortune to get anything into the prestigious event. Greene County sends its girls and boys to Carroll tomorrow, weather permitting. A strong possibility of morning rain in Carroll could give way to some sunshine in the afternoon with a high temperatures in the mid-50’s and NNW winds 15-25 MPH with higher gusts possible.
According to statistics posted Tuesday afternoon on website Bound Iowa, the Greene County boys had the 90th fastest 4 x 100 meter relay time and the fastest 96 performances statewide qualify for the Drake Relays. Only .08 of a second separates the Rams and the 97th fastest time, so their qualifying position is precarious as the deadline for submitting performances nears.
