The high school soccer teams from Greene County met the Knights from Kuemper Catholic on Tuesday with the girls’ match in Carroll and the boys in Jefferson. In both cases, the home teams were victorious.
Coach Carl Behne’s boys’ team improved to 5-0 with a 4-1 victory at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The Rams were without three starters due to injury and what a school administrator described as “unfulfilled expectations.” Teagan Chislhom scored two goals with one each by Nathan Behne and Brynley Ruzicka. Behne and Blaise Schilling each had an assist. Goalkeeper Gabe Ebersole had three saves. The Rams led 2-0 at halftime and the lead expanded to 4-0 before the Knights, now 2-3 on the season, scored with less than 10 minutes remaining on the clock. Coach Behne told Raccoon Valley Radio it wasn’t the day the Rams had planned. We had some unfortunate happenings causing guys not to be available. The boys were a little off mentally due to that, but battled in a new formation and new sots. It was not pretty, but we got the job done. Now, we work on our new reality for the coming week and prepare for some matches on the road.” Greene County plays Winterset on April 16 in Earlham.
Maribel Hernandez is the Rams’ girls’ head coach. Her team lost on Tuesday to the Knights, 10-0, one day after losing 10-0 to Panorama. Also for the second straight night, the Rams had just one shot on goal, as they fell to 0-4 on the season and have just one goal so far.
