The Greene County high school boys’ golf team opened the 2024 season on Friday at Saydel’s 18-hole tournament held at Woodland Hills Golf Course. Coach Kyle Kinne’s Rams placed seventh among nine teams on a day that saw high temperatures in the 60’s with partly cloudy skies.
Greene County was led by senior Jack Hansen at 76. Nathan Behne shot 83, followed by 84 from Nathan Towers, and 85 by Broc Stream for the four that counted in the team total.
Gilbert won the team title with 300 strokes, followed by a 301 from Pella Christian. Pella had 314, Newton 321, Earlham 324, Oskaloosa 326, Greene County 328, West Marshall (State Center) 356, and 409 for Saydel.
Ram coach Kyle Kinne told Raccoon Valley Radio the 328 put up by the Rams is lower than any 18 hole score they had a season ago. He added this was a tough early season tournament with a number of fine teams.
