The Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is preparing for events in April.
Program Director Meghan McBride says there are several fun things planned for the month, with something for everyone. She mentions that the first is a continuation of their Ag Camp Series, with this round being for students in 4th through 6th grades around Guthrie County on Tuesdays.
McBride explains that there are three classes, each with a different topic, starting with cattle genetics on April 9th, then learning about cornstalks on April 16th, and animal pictionary and agriculture Bingo on April 23rd. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio what they hope to teach at these camps.
“We are hoping that the takeaways would be just kind of a gained knowledge and general understanding of agriculture. And our idea behind these Ag Series Camps were kind of just to, I guess, educate on agriculture and celebrate agriculture. March is National Ag Month, and although we are nearing the end of March, we wanted to split it up so each age group got an opportunity to learn.”
McBride mentions that the admission cost for the series is $15 total for all three camps. She adds that each camp will take place at the Extension Office, and to get signed up interested individuals just need to contact her by calling the office at 641-747-2276 or emailing her at mmcbride@iastate.edu.
