Heads up for motorists and residents in Greene County, several horse riders will be coming through the county for a worthy cause.

The Pony Express Riders of Iowa will be doing their annual horse ride across the state to Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines. Sandra Dawson is with the Greene County Pony Express Riders of Iowa and she says their organization raises funds all year in support of the special needs individuals who are at Camp Sunnyside. She talks about how important the annual horse ride is for her every Easter holiday weekend.

“The people who ride or the people that donate, don’t get any money for it (the ride to Sunnyside). We just do it because we want to and because we love to see the smiles, and the laughs, and love supporting those kind of people (at Sunnyside).”

Petra Dawson is the Chair of the Greene County Pony Express Riders of Iowa and she says that the ride that comes through Jefferson is happening between 2 and 4pm tomorrow, where the riders will spend the night at the Greene County Fairgrounds. She points out that everyone is encouraged to make a donation while they are at the fairgrounds. Then Saturday morning, the first riders leave at 7am to continue to Camp Sunnyside. She urges motorists to take caution if they encounter a horse rider on the road.
