Earlier in March, the US House of Representatives passed a bill that would require TikTok to be separated from its Chinese parent company and sever ties to the Chinese government.
US Senator Joni Ernst believes that the Senate needs to follow suit with equal fervor. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she has never personally had the app, and doesn’t plan to, and why she feels that way.
“We do know this is very concerning. It creates a national security risk, in my estimation, and allows the Chinese to not just follow amusing videos that Americans are watching, but it can really dictate and follow their patterns of life.”
Ernst mentions the bill also would see that TikTok is sold by the Chinese company that owns it, and hopes that maybe an American business would be able to pick up the popular social app.
