The Panora City Council met in regular session Monday night.
The Council approved the third and final reading of Ordinance 352 pertaining to water rate change, discussed how the utility customer service manual had been brought up to date as it had been severely outdated when reviewed recently, and approved a resolution to approve the changes made to the manual. They also approved a resolution to apply for a tax exemption for 313 Northwest 4th Street, a special events application for the Panora Square Market, and a resolution approving a revised electric utility inspection and maintenance plan for Panora Municipal Electric Utility.
The Council then approved a termination of the agreement between Audubon County Hospital and Panora Emergency Medical Services for ambulance and health care transportation services. City Clerk Lisa Grossman and Councilman Blake Michelsen served on a committee with the Panora EMS Director, and per his recommendation the committee decided to follow this line of action. Michelsen mentioned that when looking at the revenue for the service, yes Panora EMS made money, but ultimately the ambulance lost money on overhead costs, including wear and tear and mileage. Grossman will work with the EMS Director to draft the termination letter. The termination of the agreement will not be immediate, but will take place over 90 days.
