The Iowa House passed a bill relating to access to quality healthcare.

Representative David Young tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the bipartisan bill passed the House 96-0 and points out that Iowa is short over 1,600 practitioners, specialists, and doctors. He notes that it’s paramount for Iowa residents to not only be subject to great physicians, but that they are affordable. Young details how the bill aims to help in these areas.

“I’ve got a bill passed that would allow international physicians from other countries to break through some of the barriers that it takes to come to Iowa to practice, make sure they’re on the same safety, and healthcare, and practicing, and residency standards as our homegrown doctors have here in Iowa.”

Young explains that this will allow the Iowa Board of Medicine to have the final stamp of approval to have physicians travel to the United States on a three year license in order to practice medicine.
