Many organizations continue to respond following Tyson Foods announcement on March 11th to close its Perry plant and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) is one of those organizations.

Eddie Diaz, who serves as director of DMACC Perry Career Academy, tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the short term goal is helping the City of Perry orchestrate job fairs. However, Diaz discusses that future plans are already underway.

“In the medium term, we’re going to start offering more courses for upskilling. So anything from welding to CNA (certified nursing assistant), to really it’s to be determined what all we’re going to offer, but it’s going to be based on the information we get from these job fairs, what do employees need? What do employers want?”

Diaz is confident that there will be a variety of offerings in the future, but notes that the scope of them will be determined.
