A Perry man was sentenced to probation in Marion County for a December incident.
According to court documents, 24-year-old Sean Gelles pled guilty to a Class D Felony for eluding while exceeding speed limit of 25 mph. He was sentenced to two years of probation with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.
The charge stemmed from an incident on December 9th. A Knoxville Police Officer noticed Gelles driving westbound on Highway 92 and the deputy knew that Gelles had a suspended driver’s license. Gelles failed to stop, leading to a high speed chase where Gelles reached a top speed of 110 mph in a 65 mph zone. A tire deflation device was used forcing the fleeing vehicle into a ditch.
Gelles was also ordered to pay $1,500 in fines, surcharges, victim restitutions, court costs, and court appointed attorney fees. As per plea agreement, other charges that were dismissed include interference with official acts, reckless driving, and speeding.
