Greene County went up against a field of larger schools to open the 2024 outdoor track & field season on Tuesday at Simpson College in Indianola. Although sunny with high temperature over 60 degrees at the start, winds were strong.
Both Greene County teams finished in last place. Indianola won the girls’ title with 206 points, followed by Valley (West Des Moines) 172, Norwalk 111, Carlisle 97, Knoxville 58, and 51 for the Rams. The boys’ title went to Valley at 185, followed by Indianola 170, Norwalk 107, Carlisle 71, Harlan Community and North Polk (Alleman) each at 69, and 58 points for Greene County.
The highest placing performances for the Rams was on the boys’ side from sophomore Nick Madsen in the 200 meter dash at 23.29 seconds, a new personal best. Isaac Carman was third in the discus throw with a personal best 141′ 1o” and Kamden Kinne was third in the shot put at 43′ 7″.
Payton Kokenge had a pair of third place finishes for the girls, going 4′ 10″ in the high jump, and 1:11.62 in the 400 meter dash. Daniele Madsen was third in the shot put with a best toss of 31′ 9″.
