The second funnel week has passed for the 2024 Iowa legislative session, and Representative for District 12 Ray Sorensen says that there is a major focal point for the House moving forward.

Sorensen mentions that the main focus now will most likely be putting some pressure on the Senate and Governor Kim Reynolds to get the State Supplemental Aid and teacher pay bill passed. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that schools are still waiting to set their budgets for the next fiscal year, because they need those bills passed so they know the numbers that they’re working with.

“And so we need to get that figured out and get that to our schools. That’s a real heavy point that we should be focused on. Beyond that, the policy stuff’s done. Now it’s Appropriations and Ways and Means, so its spending and taxes.”

Sorensen explains that as far as he knows for this week, only the Appropriations and Ways and Means committees are scheduled to meet, but notes that the other committees will be on-call, as there may be amendments added to bills for those two committees that pertain to some of the others.
