A Nebraska man was recently arrested on a 2018 warrant from an alleged incident that happened in Greene County.

According to court documents, an arrest warrant was issued for then 29-year-old Max Pfeffer of Omaha, Nebraska. On January 23, 2018, a Jefferson Police Officer conducted a traffic stop of Pfeffer’s vehicle for not having a functioning headlight. Court documents show that Pfeffer refused to stop and a chase ensued, with speeds reaching 25 miles over the speed limit several times, including in residential areas where the speed limit was 25 miles per hour.

The criminal complaint stated that the officer lost sight of the vehicle, but it was found a short time later by a Guthrie County Deputy in Bagley. During the search, law enforcement eventually found the vehicle behind some grain bins, but not the suspect. Court documents show Pfeffer’s footprints were found in the snow, but then the prints disappeared. The vehicle was discovered to be stolen from Omaha. Pfeffer was charged with a Class D Felony for second degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor or eluding-speeding over 25 miles per hour, along with 20 traffic violations. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.

Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn tells Raccoon Valley Radio the warrant remained active for the felony charge, but due to the case surpassed one year unresolved, the traffic violations had to be dismissed in accordance with state law. He says a law enforcement officer from Nebraska contacted his office saying an individual fitting the description of the warrant had been arrested.

Court documents show that Pfeffer appeared in Greene County District Court on March 13th and he was booked into the Greene County Jail and released under his own recognizance. Laehn adds he has instructed the Jefferson Police Department to reopen the case to be re-investigated. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
