At Tuesday’s Dallas County Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board will continue to analyze financial solutions to accommodate for the new Criminal Court Building in Adel.

Kristofer Orth, of Farnsworth Group, reminded the Board of the presentation he gave two weeks ago about building a newly modern Criminal Court Building in the City of Adel. He wanted to get a sense of where the members stood on the project. Supervisor Mark Hanson and Chair Brad Golightly offered their stances as Supervisor Kim Chapman was absent from the meeting. Hanson didn’t believe the Board can financially support the building in its full capacity, and Golightly added that he wanted the Board to meet with Finance Director Rob Tietz. Neither Golightly or Hanson felt comfortable making a decision without input of Chapman and tabled the discussion to next week.

During open forum, a Dallas County resident addressed the Board as he said that fiber optics was installed at his home without his consent. The resident notified the Board that someone informed him that they (the board) approved it at a previous meeting. However, the Board couldn’t pinpoint the specific item, due to lack of information from the resident. Administrative Coordinator Melinda Harney encouraged the resident to contact the company that installed the system on next steps as the Board didn’t feel prepared enough to offer helpful advice.

The new administration building saw no action taken but Tietz confirmed that the construction is on track for a mid-September finish. Also, Dallas County Engineer Al Miller is working on multiple road projects as the Board approved a purchase of $4,000 for a right of way agreement for 0.359 acres in Dallas County, making improvements to two county roads P58 and R22, approved specifications and plans for four box culverts in Des Moines, Lincoln, and Beaver Townships, along with setting a public hearing for a five year road construction program on March 26th at 9:30am. In addition, a public hearing was scheduled for fiscal year 2025 proposed property tax levy on April 2nd at 8am, and approval of a resolution for the final plat on Dori’s landing, which is a six lot subdivision in Walnut Township working with the City of Urbandale.
