Jefferson residents are reminded about clean-up days for the two in town cemeteries happening soon.
Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says this coming Monday and Tuesday people are to go to the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery and remove items from gravesites that are not in a permanent vase. He comments that after those dates, city crews will remove any items that are left. Morlan explains the reason for changing the time frame to two days as “clean up days” for the cemeteries.
“Sometimes people think that it’s that (whole) week, so they think they can wait until later in the week and go out and get stuff. In reality, it only takes the guys a couple of days to do it. So they wanted to be more specific about the dates they use as times, so that people didn’t get confused like that.”
Morlan adds the reason for these cemetery clean up days is to help city crews when they mow and trim the cemeteries and get them looking good for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend ceremonies.
