The boys’ soccer program at Greene County High School enters season number six (there was no 2020 season due to the Pandemic) and expectations are once again high after the Rams have been to State Tournaments three times, including last season. The 2023 campaign was the first time the Iowa High School Athletic Association expanded the postseason to three classes, and the shared Greene County/Paton-Churdan program bumped up to Class 2A, where they loss to eventual champion Gilbert in the quarterfinals.
Head coach Carl Behne and assistant Chad Black return a number of starters from last season. One of the goals is to not only advance to another State Tournament, but to advance beyond the opening round, something the Rams haven’t done in three trips to State.
The boys have a scrimmage on March 23 in Denison that will not count on the record before opening the regular season in Boone on March 26 at 5:30 p.m.
