Another program will be presented at the Stuart Public Library this weekend.
The People Active for Library Service (PALS) for the Stuart Library have brought in their second speaker of the year, and the topic is 6-on-6 basketball. PALS Member Kathy Johnson tells Raccoon Valley Radio why they decided to bring in the presentation.
“Very popular in Iowa. As a matter of fact, Iowa was the first state that had women’s basketball, 6-on-6, and their first state tournament was clear back in 1920. But even when it wasn’t so easy for people to travel around, like back in the 50’s, they drew over 15,000 people to Veterans Memorial Auditorium. And I remember going there as a high school kid with the team, and it was a lot of fun.”
Johnson and fellow PALS Member Carol Brewer mention that the PALS would love those from the community to come and share their experiences as well, especially since Iowa didn’t make the switch from 6-on-6 until 1993. The presentation is Saturday from 10-11am at the Stuart Public Library.
