It’s day one of girls’ high school soccer practice for the Greene County Rams. Maribel Hernandez is no longer a teacher in the Greene County district, but is back as the head coach. The Rams will be playing the sport for the fifth season (there was no 2020 season due to the Pandemic) and they’ve not had a winning season yet. A 3-13 record in the inaugural season of 2019 was followed by records of 0-17, 1-11, and 1-12. Creston is the only team the Rams have defeated in the past three seasons.
The Rams scored six goals last season, none by seniors. Esther Van Horn had three goals with two by Chanlan Cunningham, and one for Graci Cooklin. In addition to those three, a number of players with varsity experience return. The numbers out for the sport haven’t been strong in recent seasons, but there’s optimism more girls will be out for soccer this season.
