The primary election in Iowa will happen this summer, but the nomination deadline will be in a couple of weeks.

Dallas County has three seats open for election and two vacancies looking to be filled, according to the Dallas County Auditor Julia Helms. The elected positions are district two on the board of supervisors, the auditor, and the sheriff. The two vacancies are for the attorney and the treasurer on the county board. The deadline for nominations is on Friday, March 22nd by 5pm. Helms cautions not to wait until the last day to submit nominations.

“Candidates should not wait until the last day to file. They should file as soon as they have their paperwork ready just in case there is an issue.”

Helms demonstrates that a candidate needs 100 signatures to be eligible for the ballot. She directs people to the Iowa Secretary of State website (https://sos.iowa.gov/) in order to submit nominations. The Auditor’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm with March 22nd being the exception of staying open until 5pm. Candidates are urged to stop by at 210 N 10th Street, in Adel.
