The Greene County Recorder is warning residents about a scam involving county deeds.

Greene County Recorder Deb McDonald says fraudulent postcards are circulating claiming that it is from the “County Deed Records/Home Warranty Division” about a home warranty replacement notice. The false information tells the homeowner that immediate action needs to be taken to avoid lapses in coverage or the warranty replacement otherwise the landowner could be left with expensive repairs and product replacement. One recent case was found in Winnebago County.

McDonald says the Iowa County Recorders Association in partnership with Iowa Land Records has confirmed that this information is not legitimate. If a resident should receive a postcard like this in the mail, do not contact, pay, go to their website, or return any mailings. County recorders are responsible for the maintenance and management of official property and real estate records in Iowa.
