Dallas Center – Grimes boys basketball played in their Class 4A Substate 7 championship game against #5 Waukee on Tuesday night, and DCG was able turn a close game after three quarters into a pull away victory in the 4th, grabbing a 66-59 win to make it to the state tournament for the 3rd time in the last four years and first time in 4A. DCG moves to 20-3 on the season while Waukee ends their year at 16-8.

In a rematch from the game a year ago that Waukee won, DCG was able to turn the tide as they played with confidence and executed well to win. DCG and Waukee were tied at 29 after the first half, as the Mustangs were able to rely on the post play of senior Calix Cahill. That continued in the 2nd half, as Cahill was able to help will the team after a double-double performance that resulted in 29 points.

DCG led by 1 after three quarters of play, and then exploded offensively in the 4th quarter, putting up 25 points in the frame and pulling away from the Warriors in the process.

The Mustangs will be  the eight seed and playing in the state tournament in Des Moines next Wednesday morning at 10:30 am. They will be facing the top seed Cedar Rapids – Kennedy who comes in with a spotless 22-0 record.
