After passing a $95 billion foreign aid package in the US Senate, the House has yet to act on the legislation.
US Senator Chuck Grassley says their current bill came after three months of trying to get a foreign aid bill passed, with the first attempt failing because of including enhanced security measures on the southern border with Mexico. He explains why the border security measures failed with the first bill.
“And once it was made public (the portion of the first bill that included border security enhancements) with so many waivers from the President of the United States (Joe Biden) to maybe use it or not use it, and maybe allowing up to 5,000 people to enter our country illegally, against our law, there was a feeling in the United States Senate (of) why go along with something when you’ve got a president that isn’t already enforcing the law to enforce that law.”
Grassley says the stand-alone foreign aid bill is now in the House for consideration to give funding and other aid to countries such as Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
