All fire departments in Greene County responded to several field fires Monday afternoon.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio there were 11 separate field fires that all started virtually at the same time around 1:16pm Monday. He says two of the fires in the Rippey area were from previous controlled fires on Sunday that reignited. Williams believes the other fires were from a vehicle that was carrying burned materials that some of the materials flew out and caught various fields on fire.
Williams points out the main area of concern was east of Dana to R Avenue. He adds that while no one was hurt, several acres were burned, along with whole trees and tree stumps. Crews had all fires under control around 6pm. Jefferson, Scranton, Grand Junction, Paton, Rippey and Churdan Fire Departments, along with Ogden, Gowrie, Harcourt, Boxholm, Pilot Mound, and Perry Fire Departments, Greene County Ambulance and Greene County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
