A Boone man was arrested this past Saturday in Greene County for allegedly speeding and drug possession.
According to court documents, an Iowa State Patrol Trooper was heading east on Highway 30 in Greene County and at 11pm on February 24th, the trooper clocked a westbound vehicle going 70 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. The trooper pulled the vehicle over and as the trooper was talking to the driver and passenger, he noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Court documents show the driver and passenger stepped out of the vehicle and the trooper conducted a probable cause search. Drugs and drug-related items were found. Both the driver and passenger denied the items were theirs, until the driver, 35-year-old Kyle Habrich admitted to possessing the drug items. A field test of the leafy green substance was positive for marijuana and a white residue on a glass smoking pipe tested positive for methamphetamine.
Habrich was arrested and charged with a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of a controlled substance violation, an aggravated misdemeanor for his third or subsequent offense for possession of marijuana, and simple misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding. He was booked into the Greene County Jail.
