Several individuals from Greene County and Paton-Churdan qualified for the state speech contest.
Greene County High School Speech Coach Kelley Gray says there were ten categories that earned a Division I-rating and are moving onto the Iowa High School Speech Association State Individual Contest. Those students include Maggie Mikkelsen, Brooklyn Roberts, Ava Schilling, and Leah McCormick, along with these students that qualified in two categories, including Esther Van Horn in prose and literary program, Bill Wright for radio news and after dinner speaking, and Gavin Vander Linden with reviewing and musical theater.
Paton-Churdan Speech Coach Nicole Freiss-Schilling says three students also earned a Division I-rating and are going to compete at state. Those students include Ella Tasler in poetry, Catarina Hobbs with storytelling and Blaise Schilling in poetry.
The state contest will take place on Saturday, March 9th at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School.
