John Woodford coaches bowling for the Greene County Rams. The position is a natural for Woodford, the owner/operator of Spare Time Lanes in Jefferson, along with his wife, Vickie. In November when the season started, more than 20 boys came out, but just six girls, were at the first practice. While the boys’ numbers stayed fairly steady, the number of girls out for bowling grew to double figures, something that pleased the coach, who volunteered his time, but Spare Time Lanes was paid for the rental of the facility.

He was also happy with the progress shown by both squads. The boys’ were 6-3 in dual meets and the girls 2-6. Woodford told Raccoon Valley Radio the Baker games where he chooses five players and each of the five roll two frames, is where he sees the need for the most improvement. The boys’ had a good season, but the coach would like to see more consistency, especially in Baker games to take the next step forward.
