The high schools in Guthrie County will be heading to the Iowa High School Speech Association’s District Individual Speech Contest Saturday.

Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center Individual Events Speech Coach Jessica Fridley says that the district will be sending 16 individuals to the contest, which is twice as many as they had last year. She adds that they will be competing in 20 different events, with poetry, literary program and original oratory being the most popular events, with three students competing in each.

Panorama Speech Coach Deb Wooldridge tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she will be traveling with seven students who are competing in 10 events, with solo musical theater having the most contestants, with three.

West Central Valley Speech Coach Nancy Bauch says that there are only two students from the district competing, with one in solo musical theater, and the other in literary program. All three schools will be traveling to Waukee Northwest High School.
