Dallas Center – Grimes girls basketball was looking to make program history on Tuesday Night with hopes of going to the state tournament for the 4th consecutive year. Their opponent, the Pella Dutch were looking to spoil the fun, but DCG was victorious, putting together 32 minutes of great basketball together in a 58-45 win in Class 4A Region 4 Championship action.
DCG grabs their 4th consecutive 20 win season and their 10th straight win, while Pella ends a quality year at 16-7.
The Mustangs were able to be sharp on both ends of the court, with the defense mixing up their looks and holding Pella to 32% from the field and 5/26 from three. The offense was terrific shooting 50% from the field and able to attack the lane with success, often times getting layups or trips to the free throw line.
DCG was led by senior Vanessa Bickford’s 15 points and senior Aubrey Johansen was also able to fire in 14 points.
The win was the third of the season for DCG over Pella, and they were able to go 13-0 against Little Hawkeye Conference competition.
DCG will be defending their state title beginning next Tuesday as a four seed against five seed North Polk. A rematch of the state title game from a year ago, DCG won the lone matchup back in November 55-44.
