The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Alumni Association is working on a goal to raise money to design a new bell for the high school.

Adel Mayor Jim Peters shares that the alumni association has been brewing the idea for a while. Peters notes that the original bell was purchased in 1871 and was lost in the transition from the old school to the current one in 1987. He does, however, say a breakthrough was made 20 years ago.

“The ADM Alumni Association tracked that bell down, and it just kind of sat idle for about 20 years and then we revived the idea of restoring the bell, but found that it wasn’t restorable.”

Peters began searching for a bell company  that could create a new one. The Adel Rotary Club is setting a goal of raising $60,000 to design the bell, which would be placed next to the Tiger Figure and statue of Nile Kinnick Jr. at the high school.
