This weekend is the Iowa High School Speech Association’s All-State Competition, and one Guthrie County group is heading to Ames to compete.

From Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center, a radio news broadcast team made up of Bo Arrasmith, Noah Kading, Carter Neff, Ashton Zekucia and Lance Bunde will be making the trip to compete. All five say that they’re excited for the opportunity to perform at this stage of large group speech, and that they are glad they were able to make it.

Radio News Coach Colin Shawgo also has the majority of the group as cross country runners, and tells Raccoon Valley Radio what it’s like to see these students and athletes compete in fine arts as well.

“Most of these guys I’ve been coaching for four years, three years. But to be able to work with these fine gentlemen for so many years and to get to work with them in different aspects, not only on the course, but then also in this speech and drama field has been awesome. You get to see their multiple talents pay off. But then one thing you get to see continuously is that work ethic. In cross country and distance running, you have to have a strong work ethic to be successful, which these guys have been. I hope these boys realize everything that they’ve been able to accomplish in their high school careers, and the fact that they kind of have hall of fame careers in high school already.”

The group, naming themselves KWST Radio, will compete on Saturday, with an old western theme and many laughs to be had.
