Starting the first season of high school girls’ bowling with no competition experience in the sport, the Greene County High School girls’ bowling team travels to Atlantic today for the postseason. Coach John Woodford has seen the team grow from six girls on the first day of practice to a dozen as the season went on. He’s also seen improvement throughout the campaign.

Greene County is in Class 1A for the girls’ postseason, but up a class in 2A for boys’ bowling, because of a sharing agreement with Carroll, who sends one bowler to Jefferson to compete with the Rams. The boys will be in postseason action tomorrow in Oskaloosa.

Competion for the girls in Atlantic begins at 9 a.m. at Super Bowl with the Rams, Creston, Shenandoah, Lamoni, Lenox, Mount Ayr, and West Central Valley competing. The teams will play 15 Baker games (each of five team members rolls two frames), followed by a 30 minute break, then individuals bowl three games. The first place team advances to State competition next week, as do the top four individuals.
