A couple of youth from Greene County have qualified for a state contest through a non-profit organization.
The Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306 held the Elks District Hoop Shoot earlier this month and they have announced the winners who are moving onto the state competition. Among the winners from Greene County included the 8-9 year-old girls district champion Karleah Rice of Paton-Churdan, and 10-11 year-old boys district champion Keegan Minnihan of Paton-Churdan, who was also a district champion last year.
Each of the winners in their respective age and gender divisions are going to compete at the state contest this Friday and Saturday in Ottumwa. A full list of the first and second place finishers can be found below.
8-9 Year old Boys: 1st Place- Nathan Utesch of Esterville
2nd Place-Blake Gierstorf of Jefferson
10-11 Year Old Boys: 1st Place-Keegan Minnihan of Paton Churdan
2nd Place-Tayt Steines of Ames
12-13 Year Old Boys: 1st Place-Jackson Utesch of Esterville
2nd Place-Pierce Menke of Perry
8-9 Year Old Girls 1st Place-Karleah Rice of Paton Churdan
