The West Central Valley Wildcats boys wrestling team traveled to Ogden for the Class 1A Substate 8 district tournament and had 2 Wildcats place 2nd to move on to the Iowa Boys Wrestling State Tournament at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Trenton Naragon, weighing at 144 pounds, placed 2nd and scored 16 team points. Naragon won by fall over Collin Kenebeck of South Central Calhoun in 3:31 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Naragon won by decision against Landon Kirtley of Panorama by 9-6. In the match for 1st place, Charlie Velt of East Sac County beat Naragon by major decision 10-0, but Naragon bounced back in the 2nd place match and beat Hayden Garlow of Alta/Auerlia by decision 4-2 to earn 2nd place and receive 16 team points.
At 150 pounds, Jared Rodriguez placed 2nd and scored 17.5 team points. Rodriguez would win by fall in the quarterfinals against Nicholas Wernimont of Kuemper Catholic in 2:30. In the semifinals, Rodriguez would beat Simon Hickingbottom of Ogden by technical fall in 4 minutes. Rodriguez would fall to Brock Nattress of South Central Calhoun by fall in 3:57 but received 2nd place by no contest over Simon Hickingbottom to receive 2nd place and 17.5 points.
The West Central Valley Wildcat boys wrestling team placed 6th overall in the district tournament, and will be sending Trenton Naragon, at 144, and Jared Rodriguez at 150 to the Wells Fargo Arena for the Iowa Boys Wrestling State Tournament that starts on Wednesday, February 14th.
