Greene County wrestlers Gavin Scheuermann, Brent Dennhardt, Gavyn Winters, and Degan Miller qualified for the Feb. 14-17  State Tournament in Des Moines by finishing in the top two in their weight classes at a Class 2A District Tournament in Atlantic on Saturday. The Rams had Champions in Scheuermann, a senior at 157 lbs., and Dennhardt, a junior at 165 lbs. Winters, a junior at 120 lbs., and Miller, a freshman at 175 lbs., both finished second. Scheuermann is a four time State qualifier and Dennhardt, who placed eighth at 145 lbs. a season ago, is at State for the second time after missing his entire freshman season due to injury. This is the first State appearance for Winters and Miller. The Greene County team placed third in the field of eight with Creston taking the team title with and Atlantic finishing second.

The Rams filled 12 of the 14 weight classes on Saturday, and in addition to the State qualifiers, those placing in the top four were senior Zeke Binkley, third at 144, and fourth place finishers freshman Jaron Jacobs at 106, junior Jacob Harmeyer at 126, junior Crew Conner at 138, and senior Jackson Turner at 150 lbs.

All of the Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have complete State Tournament play-by-play of area wrestlers’ matches from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines all four days of the tournament. Class 2A wrestlers go first with their opening session starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
