A bill is still making its way through the Iowa Legislature that would repeal the state’s requirement.

Senate File 2096 would eliminate the requirement in state code for gender balancing on boards and commission. House District 47 Representative Carter Nordman is in support of the legislation.

“I think our boards and commissions should be filled with the most qualified person to do the job. I don’t think that’s dependent on what gender you are. And quite frankly I think it’s actually insulting to women when we have to say there is a law that exists only in order for you to get a spot on these boards and commissions.
