Judgement Law Council Hammer Judge Court Crime
Senator Sarah Trone-Garriott explains the bill that the Republicans are behind to eliminate Gender Balancing on Boards and Commissions.
Trone-Garriott shares that the bill has passed out of the subcommittee and is eligible to be presented for the state government committee. She doesn’t believe that there is gender parity in the legislative chambers within the Senate or the House. Senator Trone-Garriott says the voice of the public is being taken away and what her responsibilities are to avoid that.
“My concern is making sure our boards, commissions, our legislature, it looks like the people of Iowa, and it’s really representing the people of Iowa and what they want. So I’m not directly dealing with any of this legislation yet but I am watching it, I am paying attention, and it’s really helpful to hear from the people of our community on what they think.”
Trone-Garriott points out the main concern behind eliminating gender balancing is that it will possibly shift where one perspective is much greater than the other.
