The AC/GC Chargers played host to the Madrid Tigers Tuesday night for Senior Night.
The girls team started things off with a nice double digit lead, outscoring the Tigers 26-13 in the first, then doubled down in the second by outscoring them 15-4 to go into the break up 41-17. The third quarter is where the Chargers shone brightest, outscoring the Tigers 26-8, with 12 coming off 3-pointers made by senior guard Emerson Van Meter. The Chargers were outscored 5-3 in the final quarter, and ended the game with a 70-30 win. Van Meter helped pave the way to victory with 16 points off five 3-pointers and a free throw, and sophomore center Camdyn Richter was the leading scorer with 17.
The boys kept things closer in their game, trailing 18-14 at the end of the first. Both teams dropped 20 points in the second quarter, and AC/GC went into halftime down 38-34. Both teams had high scoring third quarters, with the Tigers outscoring the Chargers 25-18. AC/GC was the high scoring team in the final quarter though, putting up 24 to Madrid’s 19, and finishing the game with an 82-76 loss. Junior guard Jathan South was the leading scorer, with 32 points to his name before he fouled out in the fourth. Senior guard Lance Bunde was able to record 17 points, including a breakaway, coast-to-coast dunk in the first half, while fellow senior guard Anthony Solorzano put up 11 points, including a buzzer-beater 3-pointer to end the third quarter.
