Perry junior Geren Kenney grabbed 20 rebounds in Tuesday night's win over Greene County.

The Perry basketball team picked up their fourth win in the last five games Tuesday night, defeating Greene County 72-64 in Heart of Iowa action.  The win improves Perry to 8-12 on the season with two remaining road games on the schedule.  Perry will travel to South Tama Thursday night for non-conference action before wrapping up Friday night at Nevada.  Perry will learn their post-season fate early next week.

One of the big reasons for the late season turnaround has been improved rebounding on the defensive side.  Despite having one of the smallest teams in Class 3A, Perry has outrebounded their opponents in three of the last five games.  The Bluejays grabbed a season high 40 rebounds in Tuesday night’s win against the Rams.  Junior Geren Kenney snatched a season high 20 rebounds in the win after grabbing 16 boards Saturday afternoon in Jefferson.  Kenney was one rebound away from the school record of 21 set by Mark Einck. He is averaging close to 15 rebounds per game game over the last  four contests.

Owen Myers has been consistent from the floor, connecting on 16-24 shots from the field over the last two games.  Myers is shooting 51% for the season while scoring 13 points per night.  Senior point guard Drake Levan has been careful with the basketball, dishing out 19 assists to only 11 turnovers during the recent four game stretch.

“We are still having one or two quiet stretches during a game that keeps us from really hitting a four quarter rhythm,” stated Head Coach David Morris.  “We are getting closer to finding some consistency but we are not quite there.”
