Perry handily won both ends of a girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Jefferson on Saturday in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference make up action. The games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with the Jayettes winning 40-23 and the Blue Jays won 88-64.
The Jayettes improved to 3-14 overall and 2-10 in the conference while the Rams fell to 1-18 and 1-12. Perry made five goals from three-point range in the first quarter and seven for the game as they raced out to an early lead. It was 25-7 at the half and the second half was relatively even. Karagyn Whelchel had 19 points, 12 above her game average entering Saturday. Alaina Heard led the Rams with seven points off the bench.
The boys game also saw Perry start fast and they never stopped scoring by putting up 34 points above their season average. Owen Myers had 22 points and Geren Kenney 21 for the Blue Jays, who improved to 7-12 overall and 3-7 in the league. Greene County is 1-11 in HOIAC action and 1-17 on the season. Gabe Ebersole led all scorers with 25 points. The Rams had 14 points from Nathan Behne and 11 by Brynley Ruzicka.
The Rams play a girl/boy doubleheader on Monday in Gowrie vs. Southeast Valley, then it’s a trip to Perry on Tuesday. All four games will be broadcast on KG98.
