Greene County was home in Jefferson vs. Saydel (Des Moines) on Friday night for a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Rams won the girls’ game 51-46 for their first win of the season and the Eagles took the boys’ contest 69-56. It was Senior Night for the Rams as well as Athletic Hall of Fame Night with the five newest inductees being introduced to the crowd. On Thursday night, Megan Durbin, Dustin Fouch, Isaac Gannon, Dave Hagedorn, and Nancy Nguyen became the fourth class of former athletes inducted into the HOF.

On the court, Greene County’s leading scorer, Becca Anderson, went down with an apparent knee injury with 5:20 to play in the second quarter and the score tied 13-13. She did not return to the game, but Anderson was seen walking without any help after the game. The Eagles took a 20-15 lead following the injury, but the Rams were within one point at 24-23 by halftime. Greene County took a 36-31 lead into the fourth quarter and won for the first time this season, and just the second time in the last two seasons, both wins vs. Saydel. Kaycee Pittman had 15 points to lead the Rams in scoring with 10 from Makenna Ebersole, and Payton Kokenge added nine points. Saydel’s Paige Rummans had a game high 22 points.

The Eagles led the boys’ game from start to finish, building a 33-27 halftime lead to as many as 17 in the fourth quarter. Gabe Ebersole led the Rams with 19 points and Brynley Ruzicka had five three-pointers and 15 points. Freshman Brady Hicks had 22 points to lead the Eagles, and three others had 13 or 14 points. The Rams went seven of 17 from the foul line while the Eagles wee 18 of 23 shooting free throws.

Greene County hosts Perry today with the girls playing at 1 p.m. and the boys to follow on KG98 and streaming on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Paton-Churdan played girls’ basketball at Orient-Macksburg last night and the Rockets remained without a victory this season. O-M won by a 58-38 final. The Rockets only trailed by four points at 26-22 at the half. P-C freshman Alivya Smith led all scorers with 25 points, the highest total of her young career.
