The Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, along with many other Extension offices, will be having a fungus related class once again this year.
The Extension announced recently that the Wild-Harvested Mushroom Certification Class would be returning in the spring. The class is important for those looking to harvest wild mushrooms to either eat or sell, as many edible mushrooms have nearly identical poisonous counterparts. The certification is also legally required to sell eight different varieties of wild mushrooms. Those varieties include morel, oyster, chanterelles, hen of the woods, chicken of the woods, lion’s mane, pheasant back and black trumpet. If individuals aren’t looking to sell, then certification isn’t necessary, but the knowledge can still be beneficial.
