Playing for the fourth time in five days, the varsity basketball squads from Greene County High School were in State Center on Tuesday night facing West Marshall. The home team won both games, 73-30 in the girls’ game and 58-51 in the boys. The WM girls improved to 10-7 overall and 7-5 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference while the Rams are 0-17 and 0-11. The Trojans are 4-11 in boys’ basketball and 2-10 in the HOIAC, and the Rams fell to 1-15, 1-10.
The girls game was tied 10-10 in the first period, then it was 38-10 before the Rams scored again. Bella Borgos had 30 points for WM including eight three-point baskets. The Rams were led in scoring by Becca Anderson with eight points, Makenna Ebersole with seven, and Kaycee Pittman with six.
Greene County led the boys’ game 18-17 after one quarter, but trailed 34-28 at halftime. The Rams had just three field goals in the second quarter and one in the third. The Rams were 13 of 25 from the free throw line and WM went 18 of 32 shooting free throws. Greene County had 18 turnovers and the Trojans turned the ball over 19 times. Gabe Ebersole had 16 points and Nathan Behne 14 for the Rams. Owen Siegert scored 18 for WM.
The Rams are at home Friday night vs. Saydel (Des Moines) and Saturday afternoon vs. Perry in the final home action of the season. It’s Senior Night and Athletic Hall of Fame Night on Friday while Saturday is a make up twin bill vs. the Jayettes and Blue Jays starting at 1 p.m.
