It is now the fourth week of the 2024 legislative session, and much has occurred up to this point.
Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that much of the continuing work for this week will be dependent on the committee chairs. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why that is.
“As you know, hundreds of bills get submitted by individual legislators each and every year, but only a fraction of those actually end up going through the committee process and becoming law. And so, honestly, I’m looking to the committee chairs to make those determinations on what makes sense for Iowans, whether that’s changing up traffic laws, or whether that’s additional penalties for human trafficking. Those are some of the things that folks are talking about.”
Sinclair mentions that there has been a lot of action in the education committee, with work on the Area Education Agency and State Supplemental Aid bills. She adds that work on the AEA bill is to bring the bill to a finalized state that is beneficial, and that work on the SSA bill is to make sure that schools and teachers receive the aid and pay that they deserve.
