As the 2024 legislative session continues, both chambers are pushing forward on getting bills passed.

Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that week three of session was a lot of sub-committee and committee work, with many bills being assigned and looked over. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about one of the bigger bills that she noticed.

“Probably one of the things that might pop up on people’s radar is the youth driving. We have our school permit, and last year we looked at an ag and work permit for those 14 to 16 year olds who have completed drivers education, and there were just some inconsistencies in how those were all implemented over the years. And so, there was a workforce, a taskforce that looked into that, and there’s a bill out there to try and pull all of those youth driving permits together so that kids are safe, and we have a consistent standard that people can understand as they’re helping their kids out there to get to school and work.”

Sinclair mentions that there has been a lot of work being done in the education committee, especially on trying to help special education students. She adds that they are also working to get the State Supplemental Aid finalized, and implement an increase in teacher pay.
