The Representative of Iowa shares thoughts on a bill being proposed that would allow cameras in nursing home rooms.

A bill in the Senate is currently under consideration to allow cameras to be installed by family members, as long as other occupants in the room give permission. Iowa Representative David Young is in favor of allowing cameras providing several benefits.
“It protects the residents. Gives them a sense of peace, I think, knowing their loved ones are just a click away from viewing them to make sure that they’re ok. It also protects our workers as well, just in case there is maybe an allegation against a worker that may not be true. I think this is a great thing. I think it’s long overdue actually.”
Young does acknowledge that there are privacy concerns, particularly a camera being hacked, but explains that other states are doing this and have addressed those privacy concerns, which he says that he hopes Iowa can get to that point.
