A Jefferson man was sentenced to prison from a December 2022 incident.
According to court documents, 26-year-old Justin Lopez pled guilty to a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of a controlled substance violation. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
The charge stemmed from an incident on December 31, 2022. A traffic stop was conducted for a non-functioning license plate light and the plate not being visible due to dirt. Lopez was taking an individual home who was intoxicated but admitted he was driving with a suspended license. The Jefferson Police Officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a probable cause search and found what later to be confirmed as Psilocybin Mushrooms.
As per the plea agreement, misdemeanors for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were dismissed.
