A Jefferson man was sentenced to probation following an incident.

According to court documents, 46-year-old Bryce Delaney pled guilty to a lesser charge of a Class D Felony for second degree theft. He had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. This sentence was to run concurrently with a related case where Delaney was also sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to a Class D Felony for third degree burglary and a serious misdemeanor for possession of methamphetamine.

The charges stemmed from an investigation where Delaney stole collectable coins, jewelry and cash from a home in the 400 block of South Olive Street that were valued at $250,000. Delaney tried to sell the coins at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson and staff alerted law enforcement, which Delaney was identified through the casino’s surveillance. A search warrant was executed at the residence that Delaney was at, along with a storage unit, where the stolen items were recovered.
